About Szeged
Why Szeged?

- because Szeged is one of Hungary"s biggest cultural centers Szeged is the fourth largest city in the country and has a number of cultural, religious and scientific centers and important administrative offices

 
 

- because Szeged is located on the banks of Tisza river (often called by Hunagarians "The blond river") The city has about 170.000 inhabitants, and the country's second biggest river flows through its very heart.

 

- because Szeged is easily accessible by road, rail and air Szeged is situated some 170 km South of Budapest and is easy to reach by car on intersatete M5. The inter-city train is fast and modern and gets passengers from Budapest to Szeged in 2 hours time. Szeged also has an airport which is currently undergoing reconstruction.

 
- because Szeged has a Mediterranean climate. Thanks to the city's southern location, the climate is very delightful, receiving more than 2000 hours of sunshine yearly. During the summer it rarely rains in Szeged.
 

- because in Szeged there is so much to see For centuries Szeged has been one of Hungary's most beautiful cities. Szeged remains a symbol of European unity: in the spring of 1879 virtually all of the city was destroyed by a massive flood, but the whole of Europe united to help rebuild it. Today thousands of visitors enjoy the city's hospitality.

 

- because Szeged is Hungary's "city of youth". After Budapest Szeged has the country's largest student population. Here there are several colleges and two major universities.

 
- because Szeged's special dishes bring visitors back year after year. Every one can enjoy local specialties in the unique Szeged admosphere. The city is famous for its spicy food (venison and "gulyás" for example) but especially for its fish dishes: fish soup and "fish paprikas" are widely known.
 
- because in and around Szeged there are numerous accomodations to be found. Here you can find elegant hotels, comfortable guest-houses, youth hotels and camp-grounds. Many of the hotels and hostels are located next to lush green parks.
 
- because Szeged's medicinal waters are good for both drinking and swimming.
 
- because the city is Hungary's sport "citadel" in Szeged one can play tennis, squash, beach volleyball, swimm, go horse-riding, bowl, surf, go water skiing and canoeing... Even sports clubs can come and train in Szeged.
 
- because Szeged is a well developed economic center. Not to mention the world famous Pick salami and paprika powder, the area has the biggest supply of natural gas an crude oil.
